Fraction is the word, the number system that you use in your daily life in many ways like- when you saying give me half glass of water, bite some pieces of bread etc, So fraction is the part of something and we can use it number system.
As we learn above Fraction tell us about how many parts of a anything that we have or see around. A fraction can be written with the slash that is written between the two numbers. In the fraction we have a top number called the numerator, and a bottom number called denominator. For example, 1/2 is a fraction.
You have learned about the Number system with number line and also know little about the fraction. So here we can see the fraction on number line.
Similarly you can make many parts of anything and learn more about the Fraction.
A fraction is denoted by the Numerator and Denominator like numerator/denominator.
3/4, 5/7, 9/8
A proper fraction always has shows the number of parts into which the whole is divided known as Denominator and the numerator shows the parts which have been considered.
1/2, 4/4, 6/8 etc
Therefore, in a proper fraction the numerator is always less than the denominator.
While you see any fractions, where the numerator is bigger than the denominator are called improper fractions.
8/5, 6/2
When any whole number and any fraction combined together into one number is known as Mixed Number or Fraction.
1 1/4, 21/2 10 1/2 etc.
Equivalent fractions are the fractions with different numerators and denominators and that represent the same value or proportion of the whole. But they are equivalent in nature.
1/2, 2/4, 3/6
Each of these Fractions values are equal of one-another.
To find an equivalent fraction, we may divide both the numerator and the denominator by the same number.
A fraction is said to be in the simplest (or lowest) form if its numerator and denominator have no common factor except 1.
Now 2 and 3 have no common factor except 1; we say that the fraction
2/3 is in the simplest form.
Fractions with same denominators are called like fractions.
If the fractions with the same numerator and denominators are different. Therefore, they are not like fractions. They are called unlike fractions.
As the name suggested Compare means comparisons between the Fractions which is greater, smaller and equal.
if the numerator is the same in two fractions, the fraction with the smaller denominator is greater of the two.
You know all about the Addition and subtraction with numbers, as same you can also perform with the fractions. Some of the fraction you can easily add and subtract like- half (1/2) add with half (1/2) made it one (1).
Similarly half (1/2) minus one (1) will get 1/2.
Some fraction can not be easily add or subtract. Thus, we can say that the difference of two like fractions can be obtained as follows:
Step 1 Subtract the smaller numerator from the bigger numerator.
Step 2 Retain the (common) denominator.
Step 3Write the fraction as :
Result of Step 1/Result of Step 2
1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 = 3/3 = 1
The difference of two like fractions can be obtained as follows:
Step 1 Subtract the smaller numerator from the bigger numerator.
Step 2 Retain the (common) denominator.
Step 3Write the fraction as :
Result of Step 1/Result of Step 2
Example : Add 2/5 to 1/3.
Solution : The LCM of 5 and 3 is 15.
So, 2/5 + 1/3 = 2 x 3/5 x 3 + 1 x 5/3 x 5 = 6/15 + 5/15 = 11/15.
